Following the successful cloud migration of ORCE, a subsequent project focused on modernizing the reporting and analytics capabilities of the platform. The existing reporting solution, based on Jasper Reports and JRXML, presented several challenges, including complex report development, long execution times, limited output formats, and restricted formatting control. To address these limitations, we undertook the ORCE Reports Revamp project, migrating the reporting infrastructure to Oracle BI Publisher, a more robust and feature-rich reporting solution. This involved migrating the application from Tomcat to Oracle WebLogic.
Challenges with the Legacy Reporting System:
The legacy Jasper Reports system suffered from several key drawbacks:
- Complex Report Development: JRXML, the report definition language used by Jasper Reports, was complex and difficult to maintain, leading to increased development time and costs.
- Slow Report Execution: Report generation was often time-consuming, impacting user experience and hindering timely access to critical information.
- Limited Output Formats: The system offered limited output formats, restricting flexibility in how reports could be consumed and shared.
- Restricted Formatting Control: Formatting options were limited, making it difficult to create visually appealing and professional reports.
Modernization and Migration Strategy:
The ORCE Reports Revamp project addressed these challenges through a comprehensive modernization and migration strategy:
- Migration to Oracle WebLogic: The application server was migrated from Tomcat to Oracle WebLogic, providing a more robust and scalable platform for hosting the reporting solution.
- Replacement of Jasper Reports with Oracle BI Publisher: Jasper Reports was replaced with Oracle BI Publisher, a powerful enterprise reporting solution that offered:
- Simplified report development through a user-friendly interface.
- Improved report performance and scalability.
- Support for a wide range of output formats (PDF, Excel, HTML, etc.).
- Enhanced formatting and styling capabilities.

My contributions to this project included:
- Backlog Delivery: Successfully delivered a backlog of 343 story points, demonstrating strong project execution and commitment to delivering value.
- Report Template Standardization: Standardized over 50 reporting templates, improving consistency, usability, and maintainability. This ensured a consistent look and feel across all reports and simplified future updates.
- Enhanced Reporting Accuracy: Improved reporting accuracy for over 30 stakeholders by implementing data validation rules and refining report logic. This ensured that users could rely on the data presented in the reports for informed decision-making.
- Report Migration: Migrated 64 critical CRM reports from Jasper to BI Publisher, ensuring a smooth transition and minimizing disruption to business operations.
- Rigorous Testing: Conducted extensive testing on 2.1 TB of production data across 35 instances to ensure data integrity, accuracy, and performance of the migrated reports. This rigorous testing approach minimized the risk of errors and ensured a successful migration.
